There are two different Roads that you can choose from to get to Punta Leona. One Road is the newest and fastest way to drive to the Hotel. The second and curvier Road is a little longer but it offers a very unique view, passing by little towns where you can stop and visit.
New Highway:
Take the new highway to Caldera. Make sure you have change to pay the tolls. Drive up to Multiplaza Mall and take the Prospero Fernandez Highway, follow the signs to Jacó and on the last sign to Jacó make a left, you will encounter the Carara national park, stay on that road for approximately 15 kilometers until you see the Punta Leona entrance on the right. Call Hotel Punta Leona today if you need to review a Costa Rica Map.
Traditional Road:
The trip takes between 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on traffic. When leaving San José take the main highway (Carretera Interamericana) going North towards Puntarenas. The highway will pass the Juan Santa María airport. Stay on the Interamericana for about 10-15 minutes more, until you see an exit for a town (pueblo) called Atenas. Take this exit and you will see a sign for Hotel Punta Leona. Continue to follow the signs for Hotel Punta Leona, Jaco and Quepos, as you go through the towns of Atenas, San Mateo, Orotina, and Tarcoles. The hotel is located on the right hand side of the road, about 15 minutes after you pass over the Tarcoles River. You will see a big sign and entrance gate on your right hand side; don’t worry you won’t miss it.
